Restaurante: El Refectori - El Convent de Begur

I was slightly disappointed on arrival as the photos showed a lovely candlelit terrace overlooking the gardens. The terrace was pleasant although our table felt just a little too close to another. We were seated by the headwaiter, maitre?, with a sullen face and seemed to wait ages before we were asked if we would like han aperitif, water, a drink? Our order was taken and we still hadn't seen the wine list. We quickly choose a local wine with no help, from the wine list as thick as a bible. The food was reasonable, some dishes were particularly tasty. The starter of red tuna was delicious so as the magret in pear ratafia. The portions were a good size and really there was no room for dessert but we ordered a couple of them to try. Also slighty disappointing, presentatión was very simple, tarte tatin was cold. Coffees arrived cold and at this point i sent them back for a blast in the microwave, as i put it. The waiters were young and working hard to please but the feeling of a restaurant is created by the amable ways of a headwaiter and really he wasn't having a good day. Such a shame, a beautiful location, a lovely cool summer night, so off we went into begur to our friendly local for another hot coffee and a free biscuit!
